The Alabama Men's basketball team took to the basketball court to start its regular season on a positive note with pretty much an easy win over the North Florida Ospreys 64-44.

The game was a must win under the belt for a team that had issues in this area early on in the season last year. The result was that it cost them the NCAA tournament. This year, however, with a boatload of talent and some new talent, Alabama is ready to dramatically change course.

The game wasn't pretty. Alabama did have issues in the game with at one point in the first half going through a 7 minute scoreless funk. Nevertheless, it was all good in the end because of the Tide's suffocating defense.

The defense held a decent Ospreys team to just 13 of 56 shooting from the field (23.2%).  Behind the three-point line, they were a measly 3/21.

After the scoring drought, Alabama went on a went on an 18-5 tear to take a 29-16 lead to the half. The second half wasn't even close as the opponent never even got within single digits. In fact, Alabama led as much as 24 points in the econd half.

JaMychal Green led the Tide troops in scoring tonight with 18 points and pulled down 6 rebounds.  Tony Mitchell also bought the work pail and worked up a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Trevor Releford punched in 7 points and did not have a turnover.  The freshman all together poured in an additional 18 points and the game was sealed.

An Oakland team that caused a lot of havoc with some big teams last year comes to T-town on Monday night.   This game should prove to be the real test of how good Alabama is.  Oakland  went to the NCAA's and played a good Texas team close in a 85-81 loss and also played a Michigan State team close during the regular season last year.

The win was good.  Hope to see more of the same against Oakland.

ROLL TIDE!
