Tide Gymnastics Remain Undefeated

Friday night was the Power of Pink night in Tuscaloosa which brings awareness to Breast Cancer, but also on display was the power of the No. 6 Alabama Gymnastics team who defeated No. 5 Arkansas 197.650 to 196.125.

Although the Tide again were lead by Geralen Stack-Eaton and Ashley Priess, it was a freshman who stole the show. Lora Leigh Frost a freshaman from Decatur, had to step in for an injured Ashley Sledge and despite the last minute change, she nor the Tide missed a beat.

"Literally the last minute," said Frost, who was warming up for her exhibition. "I was about to do my front pass and Sledge said, 'I'm not competing. ... You're going in."

And compete she did. Frost would score a 9.9 on the floor excercise coming just shy of a 10 when one of the judges awarded her a 9.85.

"I knew I had to do it for the team," Frost said. "I didn't want to let the team down. I knew on the last pass I had to breathe one more extra second. I've been doing that in practice, and they say practice makes perfect. When I hit the last pass, it seemed like it erupted."

Tide coach Sarah Patterson was not worried about Frost haven't to step in at the last minute for Sledge.

"I told her, 'This is your opportunity to go out there and grab it,'" Patterson said. "And she did."

Frost performance gave the Tide a season high on the floor exercise with a 49.6 which helped Bama shut the door on the Hogs and allowed the Tide to remain undefeated.

The Tide's last SEC meet of the season will be at LSU next Friday night.
