Does McCarron Still Have Shot At Heisman?
ByA.J. McCarron has had one on of the best collegiate careers in history. He has been Alabama's best quarterback in virtually every stat. The victories were, however, his best selling point to a Heisman campaign. The fluke loss to Auburn puts a real damper on his chances.
It is possible McCarron might get in top 5, but I would not hold my breath. If he does, it is by virtue of the 99-yard pass against Auburn coupled with 277 yards passing. The Auburn return took all the shine off of it though, and McCarron was really needing two games (with second being the SEC Championship) to secure a chance for at least top 3 in Heisman.
A.J.'s numbers are good but not elite this year. As a result, oddsmakers are giving McCarron a 15/1 (as projected at http://www.bovada.lv/) chance of winning as opposed to 5:1 for FSU's Jameis Winston. This would make him about 4th place in the final standings if the odds hold up. Jameis Winston may have to drop out if he is arrested for rape charges. I won't go into all that so here is the story.
USA Today latest survey projects AJ at #3.
Everyone that knows AJ, knows that he would have swapped the loss to Auburn to even remove himself from this list. He is a team player, but there is a chance that he could be in the race for winning the Heisman, however the odds are long. Just like the odds of Bama returning to the national championship game ...But crazier things have happened!
