No Iron Bowl to me until 2009 was the more exciting then the 1985. Every Alabama fan knows about “The Kick.” The game, as most of the recent contest have been, was a back and forth affair with Auburn taking the lead in the final minutes of the fourth quarter

But quarterback Mike Shula, who had also led a game-winning drive against the Georgia Bulldogs earlier that season, wouldn’t let the Tide go down without a fight, but it wasn’t easy.

The Tide had no timeouts left and under a minute to play in the game. To start the drive, Shula threw an incomplete pass and late on in the drive, Auburn would sack Shula which almost cost Alabama the game. But wide receiver Al Bell would run the reverse which was one of the Tide’s most successful and popular plays that season to keep the drive going.

To me the most important part of this drive was the Shula pass to wide receiver Greg Richardson who had to race to get out of bounds. Had he not been able to do that, the game would have been over, but some how, some way, Richardson got out of bounds which allowed Van Tiffin to get on the field and well, you know what happened next.

Alabama won in the, perhaps, most famous score in Iron Bowl history, 25-23 Alabama over Auburn!
