Bama Players Can Learn Lesson from 1972 Game

By

If Nick Saban doesn’t want his players to watch the Arkansas-LSU game or look ahead to the BCS National Championship game, maybe he should put in the 1972 Alabama-Auburn game.

Alabama went into that contest undefeated with a chance to play for another national championship on the line; sound familiar to you?

Alabama lead the game 16-3, but as most of you know, Auburn blocked two punts in the closing minutes of the game and ended up winning the game 17-16.

If Nick Saban needed more motivation for his team not to overlook look the Tigers besides last year’s game, this game will do it for them.

Same for Bama fans, we can’t assume we will win this game. True we should handle Auburn, but history including our own in this game when Auburn had a few championships on the line, have shown you can’t overlook anything.

All we need to look at is 1972 as a reminder.
