Dan Mullen Praises Tide and Richardson

Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen said in his press conference that despite their loss on Saturday to LSU, the Tide in his mind was still the second best team in the country and that Trent Richardson is the best running back in the country.

“As I view it, we are really playing the number two team in the country," Mullen said. “To be politically correct, people put them down at number three in the BCS.”

Mullen knows what his team is up against Saturday and one of the things his defense will have to figure out is how to stop Trent Richardson which he knows won’t be easy.

“I felt that way, even last year,” Mullen said. “He was the most dangerous guy on their team last year on a very, very talented football team. We’re going to have to do a great job of wrapping him up. Not only is he a strong, physical back who you’ve got to wrap up but, when he breaks a tackle, he gets out in the open field and you can’t catch him. He’s got great speed as well.”

Another thing that worries Mullen is the Bama defense.

Other than the Auburn game earlier this season, State has struggled

on offense to make things happen and he knows that it will take a monumental effort of his offense to keep the Tide defense at bay.

“Obviously, they are the top defense in the nation and we’re going to have to play at a very high level and put some points on the board.”

Despite all of State’s troubles this season, Nick Saban knows they are capable of pulling the upset.

“Mississippi State has got a really good team,” said Saban.“Psychologically our team's got to look forward and look ahead as to what we can accomplish and what we can do for our season ... and try to make this season something special for us."
