Richardson Not Concerned About the Heisman

By

While the world will be focusing their attention on the LSU/Alabama game, they will also be focusing their attention on how well Alabama running back Trent Richardson will perform in this game; all except Richardson himself.

Most of the Heisman experts say the award is down to Richardson and Heisman favorite quarterback Andrew Luck of Stanford. Luck has a nice lead over Richardson, but most experts say Richardson can leap Luck if he has big game against LSU this weekend.

One of those whose vote might be swung towards Richardson is ESPN’s Desmond Howard who won the award in 1991.
Howard said to Chase Goodbread of Tide Sports that Richardson could be the favorite after Saturday night.

“This game is huge. This is a big stage. It's a bigger stage than what (Stanford quarterback Andrew) Luck had against USC,” Howard said. “Trent Richardson, in my opinion, can get either neck and neck or leapfrog Andrew Luck with a very strong and commanding performance Saturday night against one of the top, if not the top defense in the country.”

Richardson, like Mark Ingram before him, doesn’t get caught up in all the Heisman hype.

“I don't buy into that stuff,” Richardson said. “For the Heisman Trophy, I’d say Barrett Jones, Nachos (William Vlachos), I hope those boys get it.”

Sounds familiar now doesn’t it? Richardson sounds like Mark Ingram back in 2009 when he won the Heisman Trophy. Hopefully, that’s a good omen. Roll Tide!
