Former Bama Punter Dies

By

The Birmingham News reported last week that former Alabama punter Greg Gantt, who was best known for having two of his punts blocked in the infamous “Punt Bama Punt” in the Auburn game, has died.

According to his sister, Gantt died from complications due to heart disease and diabetes. Gantt also punted for the New York Jets from 1974-75.

Although it bothered him that he might be forever known for the 1972 game, his sister Patricia said that he eventually got over that.

A graveside service for Gantt was held today at 1 p.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham. Gantt is survived by two sisters and two daughters.
