Alabama Will Not Appeal Marcell Dareus Suspension

By

Coach Nick Saban said today that Alabama will not appeal junior defensive end Marcell Dareus' two-game NCAA suspension. The reason that Alabama chose to not pursue the matter is lack of precedence.

Dareus’ suspension came after it was discovered by the NCAA that Dareus had received impermissible benefits from an NFL agent. The benefits were tied to a party given in Miami, Florida.

The timing could not be worse with #19 Penn State coming to town. The Penn State game will be the second game of the suspension.

Last week, when it was first announced, Coach Saban said that the NCAA ruling would be appealed. Due to lack of precedence, Alabama will not appeal.

Another impact player that may not play Saturday is Mark Ingram. So far, there has not been medical clearance to play and his playing status is day to day.
