Among the 107,000 who attended Saturday’s Penn State/Alabama game was Tide and Nittany Lions recruit Kent Taylor from Land O’Lakes, FL.

The 6’5 220 pound tight end according to Rivals.com is the top tight end prospect in the country. Taylor listed Penn State, Alabama, Florida and Georgia as his top schools.

Taylor, who grew up in the Pennsylvania, is a Penn State fan, but said in the Birmingham News Sunday that he likes the way the Tide uses their tight ends and plans on making an official visit to Tuscaloosa in November for the LSU game.

He also plans on visiting the other schools as well. Right now, Taylor is on the bench for the next two to three weeks with a broken hand he sustained in the opening game of the season.

He is one of the top targets for Nick Saban this year. He plays football for the South Pointe Mustangs and he is a stud 5 star recruit defensive end that can really be a star at the next level. Word is that he will most likely choose between Alabama & South Carolina. At the moment, he is not saying where he will go, but this video should give you some insight into the world of this top notch college prospect.

In the video, you will see him effortlessly take off for a 99 yard TD run and playfully fall to the ground like he is winded. Who ever heard of a defensive end that has that kind of speed? He is fast, he has a tall frame, and he can flat out make a difference in a football game. His coach said he has never seen a player of his caliber before.

When asked, all his head coach, family, and friends have nothing but good things to say about J.D (as they call him) on and off the field. True to his name, he is known as a bit of a clown, and well liked socially at his school.

He hasn't chosen a school to Naturally, his mother would like for him to stay close to home (what mother doesn't?) but she also said it was Jadeveon's decision.

Coaches from over 90+ Division I schools have visited the South Pointe campus to see this special football player. Hopefully, Coach Nick Saban and staff can recruit this top recruit to the Capstone. He could be a defensive end in the mold of the dynamic Copeland & Curry duo in 1992, and be an excellent player to plug into the Marcell Dareus hole after this year. He isn't as big in terms of weight, so he might play the jack linebacker position. If he comes to Alabama, he will fit into the Saban defense nicely and could play early.

Watch the video below, it should give you a nice look at Mr. Clowney and the potential of his football talent. Hope to snag his signature next February.

Ryan Kelley comes from Lakota West high school in West Chester, Ohio. Scout.com ranks him as the number two center in the nation.

The commitment by Mr. Kelly came after football camp in Tuscaloosa this summer. He is the second lineman to commit to the 2011 class following Isaac Luatua, a Scout.com 3-star offensive guard from Norwolks, California's La Mirada High School. Luatua is 6-foot-2, 299-pound lineman, of Samoan descent and according to rivals is the 8th ranked center prospect in the nation.

One of the things that Alabama's Joe Pendry most likely admires about these two young recruits is the fact that they can play multiple positions. There is a great upside for both on the offensive line. Alabama will most likely get a least two more offensive lineman prospects in this class.

One of the most highly sought after linebackers in the nation is also from the same state of Ohio and a five-star athlete. His name is Trey DePriest of Springfield High School in Ohio. He has Alabama in his top two choices of colleges along with Ohio State.

Ryan Kelley is the first Alabama commitment since last month's Vinnie Sunseri committed.

Kelly also had offers from Arizona, Boston College, North Carolina State, Louisville, Michigan State, Syracuse, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, Purdue, and Illinois. He initially leaned a bit toward Cincinnati, which was his parents’ alma mater, and was 20 minutes from home. However, he felt that Alabama was the best fit for his education and football career.

Alabama is definitely going more national this in attracting more top notch out-of-state recruits following the national championship.

Top offensive line prospect, Cyrus Kouandjio will be visiting Alabama this upcoming weekend at the final Alabama football camp. He will be spending time with his big brother, Alabama player Arie Kouandjio, and participating in the high school football camp put on by the Alabama coaching staff.

Cyrus Kouandjio is most likely the #1 football recruiting target for Alabama right now. At 6 foot 7 inches tall and a chiseled 295 pounds, Cyrus Kouandjio, from Dematha Catholic School of Hyattsville, Maryland, is no doubt a force to be reckoned with. Very strong, he benches 310 & squats 510 lbs, and he still has a year of high school to go.

Considered this year's #1 offensive lineman prospect in the country and a Scout.com 5 star recruit, Kouandjio is wanted by every school in the country. Schools like Penn State, USC, West Virginia, Iowa, Clemson are on his list, but Alabama is definitely on his shortlist.

Not only does the facilities & atmosphere in Tuscaloosa impress this young man, but the coaching staff has really left a great impression with him. He said he "loves Alabama a lot" and it is definitely a plus that his brother is playing at Alabama as well.

Recruiting expert, Tom Lemming, has went on record as saying that Kouandjio has all the tools you want in a left tackle, especially after he reaches 320 lbs at the college level. He went on to say that "He has all the tools to be a No. 1 draft choice."

Cyrus Kouandjio - Pushing pile of defendersAlabama in the last three years has brought in top 3 recruiting classes in each of those three years, and it is easy to see the fruits of Nick Saban's labor paying off with a national championship last year. If Alabama can pick up 2-3 more 5 star players, it would most lock up another top 3 class, if not #1 recruiting class.

For 2011, Cyrus Kouandjio is a player that is a "can't miss" prospect. He reminds me of Michael Oher who played for Ole Miss and was also recruited by Nick Saban, which was famously portrayed in the movie, "The Blind Side". Hopefully, we will have better luck this year recruiting Cyrus!

Could you imagine him and DJ Fluker on the same side of the line?

Everyone knows the stories of the fish that got away, well, recruiting is kind of like that. Not every 5-star prospect will pan out, while some of the lightly recruited players will shine when inserted into gameday action.

I will never forget the 3rd string QB, Gary Hollingsworth who walked onto the Alabama team and become a star in the late 80's. Even burned Tennessee for 379 yards passing in one game under the gameplan of the offensive genius Homer Smith.

rashadIn recent years, walk-on Rashad Johnson became an All-SEC & All American player at safety. In the 2008 game versus LSU Johnson had three interceptions, including one that he returned for a touchdown, and one in overtime that helped Alabama win the game and secure the SEC West Division crown.

We all know how All Pro QB Philip Rivers got away from the Tide to go after playing locally at Athens High School. It happens a lot more than you might think with today's scholarship limitations. Gone are the days of Bear Bryant stockpiling talent for the sake of haing it.

The one that got away...

lwilsonNow lets look at a player that got away.. and was under the noses of the Mike Shula regime...and snapped up by none other than Conneticut.  His name is  Lawrence Wilson (See picture to left).  You will hear his name in the NFL soon.  Slightly undersized, at 6-1, 217,  this game changing player is rolling in the honors and is poised to be a first round draft pick next year. He was Big East's leading tackler in 2009.  He just makes plays and has set all kinds of Big East records, and he grew up playing in Tuscaloosa's Paul W. Bryant High School.  Yeah...only a ston's throw away from the Capstone.  Alabama didn't even offer him a scholarship, so Wilson packed his bags and headed to Huskie land. In 2010, he is combining with another two-star LB Greg Lloyd Jr. (Clermont, Fla.) to be the Big East's best linebacker duo.   I wish him luck, but it would have been nice to have signed him instead of a player like Tremayne Coger.  Hind sight is 20/20 however.

fish_1Oh well...it is fun to talk about the fish that got away, but it is even more fun to enjoy the fish we caught. That year we did get 4 nice starters and some possible linemen that might could step into a spot in their senior year. For the most part, the class was not a big catch.  Good players who did come out of it... Andre Smith, Gred McElroy, Javier Arenas, Marquis Johnson, & Justin Woodall.   A few of the busts include Mike Ford, Jake Jones, Sam Burnthall (Quit in Fall 2008), Tremayne Coger (Quit in Spring 2008)...  do you see a pattern here?  Many rated this 2006 class a B+, which is pretty much where I would rate it, but would not have gotten that without McElroy in it.  McElroy was a fish that almost got away since he was committed to Texas Tech at one time.  He has the heart of a champion, and I look to see even better things form him in 2010.

Since Saban has come in, there has been a higher standard with 3 classes rated in the top 5 of nation.   Saban started turning thing around in the years following years. In the coming weeks, we are going to review this year's recruiting class as I plan to introduce you to each one of the players.  There are some boys that will knock some heads this fall, especially in the secondary.
