It is well known that Major Applewhite is a former Alabama offensive coordinator, but there is another assistant coach that knows Alabama football quite well. He is Mike Tolleson, one of Texas' top assistants who is the coordinator the defensive tackles/special teams is an Alabama native.

Mike Tolleson comes from the North Alabama area, specifically Anniston. He did extensive coaching in the state of Alabama such as in Guntersville and Minor high schools. He was also an assistant at Livingston University and the defensive line coach for the Birmingham stallions of the USFL in the 84-85 seasons.

He has been known to talk about Alabama tradition over the years and is well known to be an Alabama boy at heart. His admiration of Alabama tradition has been evident over the years, as he is known to talk about the origins of Alabama's nickname (the Crimson Tide) but this year he's on the wrong side of the fence.
