Muschamp is the now-former defensive coordinator of the Texas Longhorns. Prior to that, he served as defensive coordinator at Auburn and LSU (when Saban coached there).

This news comes today from the Florida Gators official website, www.GatorZone.com.

Florida's athletic director, Jeremy Foley, confirmed in the report that Coach Muschamp was the first & only applicant interviewed for the job.

It had been widely thought that Will Muschamp was going to be the coach-in-waiting for the Texas Longhorns when Mack Brown retired. However, this opportunity was too sweet for Muschamp to pass up. Not only does he have prime recruiting in Florida, but he and his wife has family that live in Gainesville.

Leave it to Tebow. Tim Tebow broke the story on Twitter, creating a buzz, but the hiring was quickly all over the news.

The Gator nation is hoping for a quick turnaround in a season that has become a messy one this year in Florida. Strings of arrests, player discord, & some odd play calling has led to a lackluster year for the once powerful Gators.

Floundering to a 7-5 record, Florida even was manhandled by Florida State. Urban Meyer obviously lost focus, and was secretly hoping for retirement all year long. As a result, the spiral downwards was a strange one to watch.

It is thought that Will Muschamp will be targeting Alabama's defensive coordinator, Kirby Smart. Known to be good friends with Muschamp, Smart admitted to spending time with Muschamp in the off-season.

Nick Saban, usually endorses a move up for assistant coaches, not lateral moves like this. However, it is all up to Kirby Smart. I'm hoping that Kirby Smart stays.

Nick Saban's former assistant coaches are definitely hot hires for head coaches right now. Dooley, Muschamp, Dantonio, the list goes on...

I believe every college in America wants what Alabama has right now. Alabama may have lost three games this year, but it is easy to see that Alabama is very talented and deep and will compete year-in and year-out.

Florida hopes so...but Nick Saban will definitely have something to say about that in the years to come.

It simply doesn't get better than this in a regular season SEC match-up. Here is the full text of President Obama's full speech about the 2009 Crimson Tide's National Championship year.

"Hello, everybody! Please, have a seat, have a seat. Have a seat, Crimson Tide. Go Tide. Well, welcome to the White House, and congratulations on your 13th -- let me check that -- 13th National Championship –- the first in 17 years. I think it's safe to say that the Tide is back.

I've got to tell you, everyone was really excited about this team coming today -– except for my Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs-- because he was born and raised in Auburn. He's hiding in his office right now.

But we do have some Tide fans here that are worth a little bit of acknowledgment. I want to start by thanking Robert Witt, the president of the University of Alabama. I also want to acknowledge the mayor of Tuscaloosa, Walter Maddox. You can give them a round of applause. I want to recognize Senator Shelby and Senator Sessions, who are here. Stand up, please. And our terrific Surgeon General who's an Alabama native, Regina Benjamin is in the house. Where's Regina? There she is over there. And to all those who make this program what it is -– the students and the trainers and the staff and the ticket takers, fans in Tuscaloosa and all across the country, you should all be very proud, and I want to congratulate you.

Obviously I want to congratulate Coach Saban and thank him and his wife Terry for being with us today. There's no question that this team is here in large part because of what Coach Saban has done. There aren't too many coaches in the country who have the knowledge, the motivational skills, the program discipline to win two national championships in six years –- let alone at two different schools. And I think it's a testimony to his incredible skills as a coach.

I've got to congratulate Mark Ingram for becoming the first Heisman Trophy winner in Alabama history. Mark rushed for over 1,500 yards last season -- the most ever by a Crimson Tide running back. And I know his selflessness and dedication has made his team and his family very, very proud.

I also want to recognize your captains -– Rolando McClain, Mike Johnson, and Javier Arenas –- and all the upperclassmen for their leadership on this team. Congratulations to all of you. I especially want to congratulate Rolando for winning the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker. And I know that part of Rolando's talent comes from his intelligence and his judgment. In fact one of his teammates was asked to describe him -- he said, "Just picture Coach Saban being huge and being able to play football."

Now, one of the trademarks of this team has always been its unwavering focus on what's important. And I know shortly after the 2008 season ended, Coach hung a picture of the Florida Gators winning the national championship in the locker room -- not too subtle what he was saying. He asked his players if they wanted to work hard enough to beat their teammates in a drill, or if they wanted to work hard enough to be the best team in the country. And it's pretty clear what choice they made. That's the kind of tone this team sets, both on and off the field.

It's why these young men -- and this is something I'm very proud of -- had the second highest graduation rate of any team ranked in the top 25. It shows that these guys have their priorities straight. Together, they contributed more than 3,500 hours of community service that Alabama students -- student athletes performed last year.

And that spirit continued earlier today, when the team met with a group of kids from one of D.C.'s roughest neighborhoods, and helped teach them about the importance of staying in school and making healthy choices. That's how champions act -– in football and in life.

As Coach Bryant once said, "I think the most important thing of all for any team is a winning attitude." I think this team would make him proud, because they've got that winning attitude.

So congratulations to all of you. The best of luck next season. I know spring practice starts on Friday -- woo, man. Next Friday, huh? So enjoy these last few days off. And congratulations to all of you for just an extraordinary season. Roll Tide."

Bama's defense and offense played an outstanding game in all aspects.  I would liken it to a well oiled machine running at optimum capacity.  Tebow reminded me of Gino Toretta of the 1992 Nation Championship game.  He has a confused look in his eye and he was never comfortable throughout the game.  Defensive coordinator, Kirby Smart, had a gameplan that kept Tebow in his Clark Kent suit all night long, only to spot him in a toll booth later crying. 

On offense... McElroy looked like the Heiesman candidate...but so did Ingram (and he will win it).  The receivers caught passes.  The backs pounded Florida behind a dominating offensive line.  On defense, Florida was smothered.  They did not even score in the second half!  The king of the comeback, Tebow, had no answer for McClain & Gang!   Special teams played great for the most part, besides one missed extra point.  It was an all around great effort. 

To Be The Best, You Have to Beat The Best!

Alabama started the season wanting to beat the very best, and that happened Saturday.  The wait is on for the national championship game, but I have no doubt of the outcome.  Texas will be tough but Bama has a different attitude than ever before.  Like a shark that smells blood, Bama is ready for the kill. 

It was said that Mount Cody and some players tried to hit Coach Saban with Gatorade following the SEC victory over Florida... but Rolondo McClain stopped it.   He demonstrated leadership by saying that there will be no Gatorade on coach until they win the BIG GAME.  I call that laser focus. 

This is Alabama's first title in 10 years, but I have a suspicion that this upcoming decade will be a decade of dominance likened to the 70's when a man named Bear roamed the sidelines in Tuscaloosa.  The streak of a SEC title every decade since the beginning of the SEC was preserved.  The swagga is back... most importantly, Bama is back. 

ROLL TIDE!

It may surprise you that it came from the land of hunter orange, Jack Daniel's whiskey, and an ear piercing rendition "Rocky Top."  Yes, one of the AP voters who tabbed Alabama as the supreme football team in the land came from none other than... Tennessee!  Knoxville to be exact.  The third AP voter is a columnist from the Knoxville News-Sentinel.  He changed his mind about Florida being #1 after seeing how the Gators had sucha  hard time against the lowly Vols that he knows oh-so-well. 

The other two voters who had been voting for Bama at #1 are the same two that have done so since the VT game, Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain Dealer & Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News.  Bama is also ranked #3 in the coaches poll but did not receive any first place votes. 

If Alabama wins on through the SEC chamionship, a national title game is assured for the Crimson Tide, but there are many obstacles in the way including Ole Miss,LSU, possibly Florida...even Auburn,Tennessee, and Arkansas don't look like the cupcakes of last year. Its time to man up and take each game one at a time, and bring the 13th NC trophy home to mama.  Roll Tide!
