"Johnny Mack Brown is best remembered as perhaps the first athlete who successfully pursued a motion picture career. As a football player at the University of Alabama, Brown played in one of the most important games in southern football history. Until Alabama defeated Washington 20-19 in the 1926 Rose Bowl, southern football did not enjoy the prestige it holds today. The 1926 Rose Bowl provided the first opportunity for southern football to gain national recognition. Trailing 12-0 at halftime, Alabama changed its offensive strategy to utilize Brown's pass catching abilities. In the third quarter, Brown was on the receiving end of 61-yard and 38-yard touchdown pass plays. Alabama won the game. Alabama posted a 10-0 record while shutting out eight opponents. Brown's play in the Rose Bowl inspired the game's head linesman to say, "Johnny Mack Brown has the sweetest feet I have ever seen. The way he managed to elude Washington tacklers in his long runs was marvelous. He has a weaving elusive style that is beautiful to watch." After graduation Brown became one of Hollywood's most popular western stars."

Auburn will not come into Bryant Denny Stadium and take this game away from Alabama. It’s our house. A stadium packed with 101K screaming Bama fans will make it unbearable for Cam Newton as the Crimson Tide defense reins in the Heisman candidate.

The Auburn defense is vulnerable where Alabama is strong... in the passing game. Auburn is only ranked No. 100 in pass defense in the country, giving up a whopping 244 yards per game.

With the smarts of Greg McElroy & the blazing speed of Julio Jones, it will be hard for the Auburn defense to defend. Alabama will throw early and often on an Auburn defense that is particularly susceptible to the pass.

Alabama's defense is particularly stout on the passing game, #7 in the country. Not only that, Alabama will be keying on Cam Newton. You won't see him getting into the secondary running free like in other games this year. Coach Saban will have CJ Moseley keying on Cam's every move. I'd love to see Alabama get another record crowd like the 92,138 fancy she showed up for Nick Saban's first spring game in 2007. Let's pack The house everybody... and not just sit at home and watch it on TV! We need to show the recruits from around the nation who is back on top!

We have a fan base that can rock the house in Tuscaloosa and it is possible that what you will be able to see the unveiling of the Nick Saban statue! That is it is done on schedule. Spring practice begins next Friday, March 12. Following this first initial orientation day, the team will take a week off during spring break before returning to the field on March 22.

Saban at the national championship celebration, in January, expressed his profound appreciation for the fans who come to the annual A-Day game every year.

“It starts with our fans, the supporters and all the alumni who make the University of Alabama tradition what it is. I can't thank you as fans enough for the great support that you've given this team all year long... I knew, when I walked out that tunnel right over there, three springs ago, and there were 92,000 people in this stadium for a spring game, that your positive energy was going to allow us to exceed the highest expectations and goals that we all need to have.”

OK Bama fans...  the A-Day game has been announced.   It is going to be A-Day Game will be at 2 p.m. on April 17 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.   Practice is set to start on March 12 just before spring break. 

Hopefully, Alabama fans will turn out in droves like the biggest A-Day ever when attendance exceeded 92K+ fans with others waiting outside.  The place was electric that day for a spring that began the process which lead to this year's first championship of this century.

Bama won in a landslide over Division 1-AA foe, Chattanooga today.  Heisman trophy candidate Mark Ingram ran for 102 yards on 11 carries with 2 touchdowns in the first half of action, as second-ranked Alabama pounded the much smaller opponent,  Chattanooga, 45-0, at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Greg McElroy played only the first half, and he completed 6-of-11 passes for 80 yards and one touchdown.   Julio Jones joined in on the first half fun with a nice touchdown catch as Bama cruised out to a 35 point lead.

On special teams, Javier Arenas set an SEC record ran back his seventh punt return for aTD.   This broke the record previously set by Kentucky's Derek Abney from 2000-03.

I'll have to admit, the game was pretty boring at times as Bama pounded the outmanned Chattanooga Mocs 45-0 today.  Regardless, it sure does beat the days of Shula getting pounded by a third rate team.

The first teams of Bama performed excellently and the benches cleared to allow all the seniors and other depth player to play.  It gave the starter a breather yet allowed them to get some stats in the coffers before allowing the backups and waterboys to mop up the game.

Now I am ready for the real fun... Turkey eating on Thurday, and Tiger hunting on Black Friday.
