Taylor, who committed to the Tide back in February, tore his ACL in his right night last week in practice.

Former NFL standout and Taylor’s head coach Stanley Pritchett told the Atlanta Journal he has already talk to assistant head coach Chris Rumph and Nick Saban about Taylor’s injury.

Alabama said they are going to stay committed to him, said Pritchett. “That’s a good thing, you know, when a team will stick by a guy who is injured. That’s really good by Alabama. And I know Justin will work hard to get his knee back right and be ready to go next season in college.”

Pritchett went on to say that he and Saban will talk more about Taylor’s injury and the best way he can rehab it.

Geno Smith becomes Alabama's 17th verbal commitment for 2012

Sounds like the rich get richer, as Bama brings in another high level cornerback for the stifling Alabama defense. Saban has a real knack for spotting talent in the backfield. He looks really good in coverage on the video above, but of course this is the highlight video. They never show the missed assignments, but overall he looks like a quick coverage guy that can really close on the ball when its on the air. He also seems to have excellent open field running ability as he carries the ball after an int. Look forward to inking this peach (Georgia) of a db!

According to reports from the Daily Press of Newport News, Virginia, Alabama and Virginia Tech will be kicking off the 2013 season opener against one another. This will be a rematch of the 2009 season-opener that Alabama won 34-24.

The report states that the game will be the 2013 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game that will open the season in Atlanta's Georgia Dome.

The announcement will come soon according to Virginia Tech AD Jim Weaver, however official word will come from the organizers of the Kickoff game.

Coach Nick Saban seems to love these intriguing early match-ups of a non-cupcake non-conference team early on in the season. It really goes on to prove the metal of his teams to go through an early fire. This year, the best we could do was the second game verses Penn State, but next year Alabama will start the 2012 season out against Michigan in Dallas, TX. (It could be debated on whether Michigan is now a cupcake, however.... thanks to Rich. Rod!)

I am pumped to get the opportunity to open the 2013 season against one of the best in the business in Frank Beamer and I am sure that Coach Saban also relishes the opportunity to play the stiff competition early on in from of the nation's spotlight. It really ends up paying big dividends in terms of recruiting and national exposure. Not only that, a win can vault Bama higher in the rankings early on & a loss can be made up over a long season. It is really a good way to start the season.

Granted, the blow-out of Vandy by Georgia last week showed that it most likely won't happen, however the possibility remains.

Just listen to Ol' Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier. He took a look at the standings this week and was nearly bug-eyed and nearly dazed as he read the SEC East standings of his next opponent this weekend, Vandy. "Well, heck, Vanderbilt is still in the hunt," Spurrier said.

Vandy will be no push over for the South Carolina Gamecocks. The winner has a chance to grab the perch of the west with "only" 2 losses! Vandy controls Vandy's destiny, much like Alabama does!

Could you imagine playing Vandy in Atlanta, come December? Who would have seen that coming?

Added to the possibility of an upset of South Carolina is the fact that star freshman running back Marcus Lattimore, had an ankle injury in the 2nd half of Saturday's 31-28 loss at Kentucky.

Not to mention the Gamecocks play on the road. If Vandy pulls off the upset, it will send reverberations throughout the SEC & the nation that Vandy can play with the big boys.

Will it happen? Doubt it. Would it be interesting if it did? Sure.

You have to wonder what the Urban Meyer 5-stars think about the brainiacs of Vandy taking over the show in the SEC East?

We'll find out more this weekend...and Alabama possibly will in December.

With the help of big losses from Ohio State and Nebraska, the line in front of Alabama got shorter.

This week, the Crimson Tide is 8th in the first released BCS standings of the year. Also, it is seemingly in a lowly 3rd position in the SEC West standings; however keep in mind that Alabama still controls its fate. Win out, and Alabama will march like Sherman to Atlanta.

Alabama fans are cautiously optimistic of Alabama's chances after a "ho-hum" type of 23-10 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday. Also, don't forget that this isn't missed by the players at Alabama, and of course Nick Saban. There is definitely room for improvement on both sides of the ball. Sure, McElroy passed effectively on Ole Miss 17-for-25 for 219 yards and two touchdowns. But when you look closer, 85 yards was in one play to Trent Richardson. Alabama must get better.

Alabama's next shot to prove themselves worthy of the SEC & national championship rings comes on Saturday night, when they take on their hated rival, Tennessee, in what is sure to be a wild atmosphere in Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee is down this year with only a 2-4 record, but they are definitely not a push-over. Tennessee led LSU at the end of the game, only to lose a close fought game to the hands of the mad hatter himself, Les Miles. Knocking Alabama down a peg in the BCS would cause the goalposts to fall in Knoxville.

Tennessee was even a tough game last year when Bama took home the national championship. It took two blocked kicks by Mount Cody to preserve the victory over the volunteers.

If Alabama can win-out, the road to Atlanta will be one that could lead to Glendale, Arizona. However Alabama could still use some help. They need Oregon and/or Oklahoma to lose a game. UCLA has a chance on beating Oregon this weekend (they did beat Texas), but look for Oregon's best chance for a loss against #18 Arizona. Oklahoma, on the other hand, plays a tough #11 Missouri team that could be upset minded. Not to mention, Oklahoma will have to tangle with an undefeated state rival in Oklahoma State.

Keep in mind that when Florida won the national championship in 2008, it lost to Ole Miss at home. In fact, they dropped to #10 in the BCS that year. 

Nick Saban is no stranger to this game from his days at Louisana State. When the first BCS rankings came out in 2003, LSU was ranked 12th.   That year, they even lost a pivotal game to Florida 19-7 before roaring back to win-out the rest of the season & capture the crystal ball in defeating Oklahoma.

Consider this.  Oregon & Oklahoma have to go unbeaten or Alabama has to get beat again to keep Bama from travelling to Glendale.  For some reason, I just can't see either scenario happening.  Bama will be there in Glendale. 

Remember this, Tide nation.  There is a lot of football to be played this season, so don't give up on Alabama's chances to pick up another crystal football at the end of the year.  All hope is not lost.   Alabama is still in striking distance for the big game, but they have to play it one game at a time. Everything else will fall into place.

The Crimson Tide won, 24-15, in Tuscaloosa in a bruising battle against the LSU Tigers this Saturday that sent several of the LSU Tigers to the sidelines with injuries.  Even though it took a while to hit paydirt, in my opinion Bama played lights out football against an SEC juggernaut ranked at #9 in the country.  Even with it being ahome game, for us to walk away victorious was very satisfying.  The win sealed the deal for a trip the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. 

The rest on the bye paid off big time as the well-rested Tide players relied on the endurance built up in the heat of July's 4th quater conditioning program.  It was very apparent that the LSU players getting leg cramps etc. were being worn down by the brutal Alabama attack on offense and defense.  The defense yielded only 9 yards in the fourth quarter and the offense.. the offense finishing out with 452 yards against one of the nation’s top-ranked defenses. 

On offense, the magic seems to be back as Mark Ingram and Julio Jones had good games.  Jones struck in the 4th with a 73-yard touchdown catch on a quick screen pass.  The play was electric and it may be a good sign that the Julio of old is back.  Mark Ingram put on a show on CBS for the Heisman voters by RB Mark Ingram had 144 rushing yards (106 in the 2nd half) and finsihed with five catches for 30 yards.  Even McElroy broke out of a slump as he chucked the football downfiled numerous times that seemed to open the running game up in the second half.   McElroy threw the football for 276 yards on 19-of-34 passing, his best performance since his 291-yard effort in the Arkansas game on Sept. 26. In fact, the yardage total was more than the past two game combined.  

Let's not forget that Leigh Tiffin has been invaluable n the kicking game as well.  When he started as a freshman, he has some shaky moments like the two misses in the loss to Arkansas of that year, but since... he has become like gold.  He keeps rising in value.  In the LSU game, he  set a school career scoring record with three field goals and an extra point.  The result was the difference in the game.   Without him, we might have lost by a point.  You never know.   His name is now at the top of the Alabama scoring list above Phillip Doyle, and I would feel very confident if the national or SEC championship game come down to a 50 yards kick and his toe.  He is that good. 

 The defense held LSU to only 253 total yard for the game and 95 running.  The Ti­gers were held to just 9 total yards on 11 plays in a fourth quarter.   Also, LSU went three-and-out on six of its 11 possessions.  The Tide defense was stout as usual and when you compare the numbers to the LSU / Florida match, Bama actually won out on both sides of the ball. 

Overall, it was an outstanding win for the Tide over the LSU Tigers!

Is South Carolina so afraid of the Alabama Crimson Tide that the players are seemingly becoming unhinged the day before the big SEC battle tomorrow night in Tuscaloosa.    The players are dropping like flies.  Two to be exact.   One of the top running backs was suspended, and an offense of lineman just up and quit!

According to reports out of South Carolina, the offensive lineman who quit was junior Heath Batchelor, starting left guard from last week.  Batchelor reportedly said he "simply lost interest in the game of football."  It is when you consider the fact that he's going up against the most dominant defensive lineman in college football, Mount Cody, then no wonder he was shaking in his boots.  Smart kid!  LOL  Get out while going is good!  When you hear the word "avalanche!", and see Mount Cody coming down on you the next day... it might not be a bad idea to get out of the way!

The second-leading rusher on the team was purportedly suspended for violating team rules.  We have no idea what the rule was broken, but you never know if really deep down he is now sighing a sigh of relief....  After all, he doesn't want to get pounded by top defense in the country!

While all this is conjecture, the fact remains... Alabama is the overall most complete team in the country.  It is dominant in almost every phase of the game and really should be ranked number one in the country over Florida.  But for now, let them have their perch on top of the national polls, but we plan to meet them in Atlanta in December.

South Carolina just last week barely got by Kentucky, so it looks like the table is spread for Alabama to bring home the fried chicken of South Carolina in a handily-won victory tomorrow night... but they do have the "visor" on their side.  Never underestimate him, but we also should expect excellence from this team because truthfully is the best we have seen since 1992.

It's homecoming night tomorrow night, and Alabama smells blood.  Saban is getting ready to fry some chicken up for supper down in T-town.  The chickens are 'fraid of Bama and will soon be fried.    So get ready... Gamecock chickens are coming to town and it is time to fry them up!

If Nick Saban was Larry The Cable Guy he would say.. "Git r done!"

Listen to this!  Pat Dye has Alabama ranked #1 in the legends poll, but Gene Stallings #2. Go figure! Coach Stallings lines up with the AP Poll on his picks & I know that he is well aware that we'll have to win it all on the field anyway! Coach Stallings, I am sure, does not want to show favoritism, and I am sure he knows we still can improve on this version of the Crimson Tide.

Point is this.. who would have thought the old Auburn head coach would pick Alabama higher than the old Alabama coach? Ironic isn't it? (pun intended..as in "Iron Bowl")  Maybe, he is actually a "Dye"-hard Alabama fan, deep down?  Who knows! 

Looking at what I have seen, Florida has shown no reason to be booted off the top (except for the Tennessee game), even though Alabama is looking like a well oiled machine. I really think the Alabama team is tops in the nation. It will hurt ot lose Hightower, but we are still loaded for bear (another pun! lol) It really will not bother me at all if Florida continues to keep the red bulls-eye planted squarely on their back, and then Bama walshes into Atlanta to take the SEC crown and get their chance for the National Championship. Isn't that how Florida did it? We'll see how it all goes.

With the loss of USC to Washington, Alabama moved up in the AP Top 25 Poll for this week to #3 & gained another first place vote from an AP voter. This ranking assures the Tide a spot in the national championship game if we can run the table until the end of our schedule since Florida is another SEC team in the top 3 (actually #1).

Of course, this is looking way down there road, but there are hurdles to leap like three out of the top seven teams in the country, Ole Miss, LSU, & most likely Florida (if they make it to Atlanta) before we can even talk national championship. Really though... Everything that Bama needs for a championship run is laid out and all we have to do is play Alabama football from here on out.

Saban wants a national championship so bad he can taste it. I can sense that about him this year and he knows this team is cocked and loaded. Saban just has to pull the trigger at the right times.
