Alabama looked sluggish in the first half as they walked into the locker room in a 6-6 tie. To say that Alabama fans weren't nervous would be a lie. The atmosphere was eerily similar to the one in 2009 when Mount Cody had to pull out a miracle field goal block to win the Tennessee game in the waning moments.

But then, Alabama found its game in the 3rd quarter. The sleeping giant was now awakened and Tennessee was simply punished.

All "krunked up" (as Dre Kirkpatrick might say), Alabama was hitting on all cylinders on offense & defense in the second half as they steamrolled to a 37-6 victory.

Alabama came out on defense as its first defensive stop, and marched down for a TD drive with their first four passes connecting for 73 yards. Then AJ McCarron scrambled for a 2 yard TD run in an effort that showed true grit and determination from a young quarterback. It was very much like the one-footed sideline hop by Greg McElroy in the SEC Championship game of 2009. The same grit & spunk was on display in the remarkable turnaround in the second half.

The defense did not allow one first down in the second half, with one play being huge. It was the 4th down quarterback sneak that Alabama stuffed. Simms came within inches of 1st down and on review, he did not get it. One play later, Alabama threw a touchdown pass to Kenny Bell for 39-yard touchdown strike.

The rout was on.

Alabama took a game that for a half looked amazingly close, to taking their level of play to another level and playing like champions.

When the smoke cleared, Alabama had another cigar smoking victory over the Volunteers to revel in. (Not sure if the players did or not, it is officially not allowed by the NCAA. It is my guess that they might have blew a few cigar rings in private :-)

Next comes LSU on November 5th, Alabama won't have the luxury of playing like the 1st half of the Tennessee game if they plan to win what is considered the de facto national championship game. Alabama will need to play the way they did in the 2nd half or Les Miles be grinning all the way to Louisiana.

I like the thought of him spitting out Tuscaloosa grass, throwing his cap, and hearing the ringing of Rammer Jammer in his his ears all the way to Louisiana instead. :-)

There is a bye week for us and LSU. Get ready for Ali vs Frazier. It will be the game of the year.

I doubt they will win the SEC East but who know?

That’s right.  I know it sounds cliché, but....  This year's Vandy team is performing at a higher level in football than most Vandy teams of the past. Part of the reason is a new attitude imparted by their first year Coach James Franklin.

Coach Franklin's a trailblazer already there in Nashville just in his first year. In fact, in the history of Vandy, he is the first 1st-year coach since 1946 to start 3-0.  On top of that, he has come out of the gate with one of the best recruiting classes at Vandy in over a decade.  This year’s class was filled with talent from Parade All-Americans, All-State players, Four-star standouts, Mr. Football recipients, the list goes on.  Already for 2012, the commitments have Vandy ranked impressively at #25 in the country by ESPN.  If Vandy keeps this trend up, a trip to Atlanta will be in the future.

Is a big letdown in store for Alabama coming off a big win at Florida this week?

Coach Saban said “They’re a tougher team than people think,” Then explained. “They’re 3-1, they have a good offense, and they have one of the best turnover margins in the country. One of the reasons they are having so much success is because they have such a good turnover margin, and their secondary makes a lot of plays for them.”

Listen.  Coach Saban isn't going to let the Alabama football players overlook what many consider to be an underrated Commodores squad this year. The onus on Nick Saban is to keep his players hungryto win every week, regardless of the competition. That is no easy task with young players, but he is a genius at it.

Look at Josh Chapman.   He was on the cover of Sports Illustrated this week. However, you don't worry about it going to his head because, according to Saban, the coaches and players have all harassed  Chapman about his widespread publicity this week.  They work to keep each humble and striving to get victory.

Vanderbilt versus Alabama history

The Alabama / Vanderbilt football series actually started out with Vandy dominating Alabama. The score was 30-0 in the season opener in 1903. Since that first game, however, the series has been a lopsided affair at a record of 58-19-4 in favor of the Crimson Tide.  However, considering the fact that 28% of the games verses Vandy was a loss or a tie makes you think.  Just over one out of 4 games against them has not been a win!

Even way back In 1926, with Alabama's coach Wallace Wade defending national championship team, Alabama had a hard fought victory versus the Vanderbilt Commodores 19-7 that year.   It ended up being Vandy’s only loss that year.

One of the most embarrassing losses ever for the Alabama Crimson came at the hands of the Vanderbilt Commodores in 1969.  Bear Bryant (of course) was at the helm, and the ‘Dores were led by a young gun quarterback by the name of Watson Brown (you remember him I am sure as former coach of the ‘Dores).  In that upset loss, Vanderbilt beat Alabama 14-10.

Most Alabama fans will remember a tough fought Vanderbilt game if they will look back at it.  It seems to happen a lot more than you would think.

So don’t take the Vandy game for granted that it’s an easy win.   Trust me.  Don’t overlook Commodores.  They don’t  go down without a fight.  Never.

I’m always frightened when any commentator says a team has almost no chance to win, but Bruce Feldman of CBS Sportsline basically said that.

Feldman was on Paul Finebaum’s show this afternoon and basically said Penn State has no chance against the Bama.

Feldman said that the Nittany Lions offense is in much worse shape then the Bama offense and that the Bama defense will eat them up.

“This will be the best defense Penn State sees all season long.”

And as far as the PSU defense, Feldman didn’t think much of them either.

“I don't see Penn State being able to stop Trent Richardson.”

Weather may play a HUGE factor in the game this weekend. What is left of Tropical Storm Lee, which battered Alabama earlier this week, has been hitting the Northeast hard and it won’t be ending by Saturday.

In fact, Kevin Scarbinsky of the Birmingham News just posted on Twitter that they are advising Alabama fans to take alternative routes to get to State College this weekend.

Don’t be surprised if the weather plays a factor in the outcome of this game. It might turn what some consider an easy Bama victory into a long, hard fought game which may be an advantage for Penn State.  Let's hope thats not the case!

In a very classy move, Steve Sampsell who is the director of college relations at Penn State, sent a very classy letter to UA’s student newspaper the Crimson White welcoming Alabama fans and students to their campus this weekend for the game against the Nittany Lions.

Sampsell was very complimentary of how he and Penn State fans were treated last year when they came to Tuscaloosa and wanted to extend the same hospitality to Alabama fans.

Here are just a few lines from Sampsell’s letter: “Our trip was a pleasure (aside from the not-unexpected outcome of the game) in large part because of Tide fans – especially students.”

“At one point, we were the only two people in Gallette’s wearing blue and white. It was just us, the live band and seemingly hundreds of Alabama students, and the students consistently asked us about our trip, encouraged us to have a good time, made recommendations on places to eat or simply thanked us for traveling south.”

As much as we all love SEC football, let’s be honest; you will probably never see a letter like this sent by LSU or Auburn’s PR department welcoming Bama fans or any fans for that matter to their campus.

Class is a rare thing among college football fans these days and it’s nice to see that some fan bases, still respect and understand the meaning of the word.

Seen this commercial just the other day on TV and it is strange to say the least. In it, the Alabama fans are getting ready for a game decked out in Alabama "super-fan" garb, while singing about it all to the tune of "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger (an old 80s group). In it, there is the "ultimate" Alabama room (garage really) with rotating seats, remote control cooler, & a big screen TV.. when all the sudden a nerdy Auburn fan on a four wheeler that looks like a Tiger. A kid says "he brought pizza so he's alright!" It is cheeseball if you ask me, but it is also worth a look if you have never seen a Auburn Tiger pizza delivery guy showing up to a Alabama party.

We have one person to thank for this, and that is Nick Saban!

I was just sitting around the day thinking about how much we love what Coach Saban is doing down in Tuscaloosa. It wasn't too long ago that a 10 win season was a great year, however now the standard has been set higher. Coach Saban has brought us along to to where we are competing year in and year out for the national championship.

It is official. Florida has a new coach. His name is a very familiar one to Alabama fans, Will Muschamp.

Muschamp is the now-former defensive coordinator of the Texas Longhorns. Prior to that, he served as defensive coordinator at Auburn and LSU (when Saban coached there).

This news comes today from the Florida Gators official website, www.GatorZone.com.

Florida's athletic director, Jeremy Foley, confirmed in the report that Coach Muschamp was the first & only applicant interviewed for the job.

It had been widely thought that Will Muschamp was going to be the coach-in-waiting for the Texas Longhorns when Mack Brown retired. However, this opportunity was too sweet for Muschamp to pass up. Not only does he have prime recruiting in Florida, but he and his wife has family that live in Gainesville.

Leave it to Tebow. Tim Tebow broke the story on Twitter, creating a buzz, but the hiring was quickly all over the news.

The Gator nation is hoping for a quick turnaround in a season that has become a messy one this year in Florida. Strings of arrests, player discord, & some odd play calling has led to a lackluster year for the once powerful Gators.

Floundering to a 7-5 record, Florida even was manhandled by Florida State. Urban Meyer obviously lost focus, and was secretly hoping for retirement all year long. As a result, the spiral downwards was a strange one to watch.

It is thought that Will Muschamp will be targeting Alabama's defensive coordinator, Kirby Smart. Known to be good friends with Muschamp, Smart admitted to spending time with Muschamp in the off-season.

Nick Saban, usually endorses a move up for assistant coaches, not lateral moves like this. However, it is all up to Kirby Smart. I'm hoping that Kirby Smart stays.

Nick Saban's former assistant coaches are definitely hot hires for head coaches right now. Dooley, Muschamp, Dantonio, the list goes on...

I believe every college in America wants what Alabama has right now. Alabama may have lost three games this year, but it is easy to see that Alabama is very talented and deep and will compete year-in and year-out.

Florida hopes so...but Nick Saban will definitely have something to say about that in the years to come.
