Cauley was an Alabama golfer who was a three-time first-team Golfweek All-American during his three years at the Capstone. He was also a finalist for the Hogan Award, given to the best college golfer, all three years at Alabama. Cauley was a member of the 2009 U.S. Walker Cup team, where he posted a 3-0-1 record. In 2009, Cauley was the Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Year.

As a professional, Cauley qualified for the US Open in 2011 the same year he decided to turn pro and finished tied for fourth in two PGA tournaments. As of 2011, Cauley was ranked 116th in the world.

For those of you who didn't know, the Frozen Tide is a pretty good team that is currently ranked No. 3 in the country in the Collegiate Hockey Association’s South region standings. They play all their home games at the Pelham Civic Center which for those of you who aren't familiar, that is near Birmingham.

The Frozen Tide (6-0-0 SECHC) is currently tied with Arkansas (6-1-0) in the SECHC West Standings with 12 points. The teams will likely settle the Western Division when they meet during the last weekend of the regular season for a pair of games in Arkansas in February.

Besides Arkansas, other SEC teams they compete against include Tennessee and Auburn which they have swept this year.

If you want to cheer on the Frozen Tide, they play their next three home games against South Carolina, Central Florida and Georgia before ending their season at Arkansas. Checkout out www.bamahockey.net for more information.

The Crimson Tide, which finished last season with a 53-11 record, were ranked No. 3 after their semifinal run in the Women’s College World Series last year.

Tide head coach Patrick  Murphy said  "To be No. 2 or No. 3 in the country preseason is a great honor, but our group knows it is just the beginning

It was a strange offseason for the Tide which saw coach Patrick Murphy leave the program for SEC rival LSU only to decide to change his mind and come back to Tuscaloosa.

Despite the slight upheaval during the offseason, this looks like another banner year for Tide softball. Bama will open its season in the Mardi Gras Invitational in Mobile starting Feb. 10-12.

College Basketball Hall of Fame Coach, Gene Bartow, died Tuesday at the age of 81. He was the man that started Alabama-Birmingham's (UAB) athletic program. He succombed to stomach cancer according to UAB officials. He coached also at UCLA following the legendary John Wooden and also at Memphis State. He led UCLA to Final Four, Memphis State to Finals, & took UAB to 7 consecutive NCAA tournaments.

Overall,he had one of the winningest records in NCAA Division I basketball history with 647 wins in over 34 seasons. below is a video of his induction into the C. Basketball HOF. Later in his career, he became athletic director of UAB & also became company president of company that owns the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies as well as the FedEx Forum. He was a class act, and we wish to send our condolences to his family.

This is a great documentary of one of the most beloved sports at the University of Alabama, second to football. Women's gymnastics. Alabama has a history of winning national championships and training elite athletes.

Even though the gymnastics team don't get the TV time of other sports, Alabama fans support these girls with large sellout crowds sometimes in excess of 15,000 at meets.

In fact, Coach Sarah Patterson says that if you come to a meet as a fan and don't enjoy yourself, then she will refund your ticket. Guess what? In 30 years, noone has asked for a refund.

If you get a chance, try to get out to a meet. You will not regret it. You will often see fireworks, smoke, good looking girls, and lots of high energy action. It is great family fun and fans always enjoy the experience.

Take a kid or a friend to see them. You won't regret it.

Roll Tide!

JaMychal Green has looked impressive in the off-season in playing for USA Basketball in the World University Games. This summer, Green came in second on the team in scoring with 12.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as the squad played to a 7-1 record. He lost 17 pounds in the off-season, so look for him to be able to run the floor better and have more endurance.

The ladies team is expected by many to be the best that Wendell Hudson has had since he first became the ladies head coach in 2007. Led by senior leader Ericka Russell, the Tide ladies look to improve mightily this year. Hudson said one of the keys to successful recruiting as of late came from the impact of Nick Saban on the program. Coach Saban has went over and beyond his call of duty to meet the recruits and spend time with them. Hudson indicated that Alabama has signed three junior college All-Americans for instant impact, and two of them were on a 32-1 championship team last year, and another player was on a national championship team in junior college. So there is proven winners in place this year to take Alabama's ladies basketball to a new level of play.
