After the sudden resignation of Dr. Guy Bailey as University of Alabama President, the board of trustees named Dr. Judy Bonner the new president of the University of Alabama.

Dr. Bonner, who was the interim president of the university before Bailey was hired said this in a statement this afternoon:

"It is with great pleasure that I accept the position of president of The University of Alabama. I am looking forward to working with the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor and our students, faculty and staff as we continue to build on the progress and momentum that have led our University to such unprecedented success.

We have so much to be proud of and so much to look forward to. Together with our alumni, fans, friends and supporters, we will remain committed to excellence and quality in everything we do."

Bonner is the first female president of the school.
