Ely Leads The Battle Of Back-Up Qb’s

By

Since back-up quarterback Phillip Sims has transferred back to his home state of Virginia, the door has been kicked wide open for the position of back up quarterback on the Capstone.

Right now, it looks as if Phillip Ely has taken the lead over freshman Alex Morris according to Nick Saban.

“Phillip Ely probably showed that he has a little more knowledge and experience, managed the game a little bit better, executed a little bit better,” Saban said.

“You know, the freshman (Morris) played like a freshman. He got a little bit rattled out there, had a hard time managing the huddle, and got a little bit antsy in the pocket sometimes.”

Even before Sims left for Virginia, there was talk among some that Ely was making a move on him for the back-up position. Ely was a highly recruited quarterback in high school coming out of the state of Florida.
