Saban hires Doug Nussmeier as new OC

By

After weeks of speculation, Alabama announced that former Washington assistant Dough Nussmeier was named the new offensive coordinator for the Tide.

According to Chase Goodbread of Tidesports.com, under Nussmeier, the Washington offense averaged 410 yards per game, ranking No. 38 in the nation, and 33.4 points per game, which ranked 26th nationally. The Huskies' offensive production included 154 yards per game by rush, and 256 by pass. Nussmeier, 41, was also Washington's quarterbacks coach and oversaw the development of Jake Locker, who was a first-round NFL draft choice by the Tennessee Titans last April.

Another interesting fact about Nuessmeier is that he replaced Jim McElwain as offensive coordinator at Fresno State when McElwain went to Alabama.

From the outside looking in it looks like the perfect hire because Nuessmeier brings the type of experience and balance Coach Saban seems to look for in his offensive coordinator.
