McElwain Returns to Practice; Thanks Players

It was an emotional moment Monday for new Colorado State coach and Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain.

This was the first time McElwain was able to address his players since he took the CSU job.

According to the Dothan Eagle, McElwain got chocked up.

“He told us we put him in that position to have that opportunity,” senior wide receiver Brandon Gibson said. “Actually, he gave back to us, so hopefully we’re going to send him off, hopefully, with another national championship. … It got me going in the right direction.”

Barrett Jones said players are excited for McElwain, but sad to see him go.
“He’s been my offensive coordinator four years and I’ve loved being with him,” the Tide’s left tackle said, before adding, “especially since he put in that play for me at Auburn.”

Despite rumors to the contrary, Coach Saban was very complimentary to McElwain’s contributions over the years to the Tide.

Saban said McElwain had done a “great job here, in a lot of different ways.”
“I think he’s the kind of guy that has a lot of pride in what he does and I don’t think there’s going to be any issues or problems in his commitment to what we’re doing for our team and this game.”

Let’s hope that the players can send Coach Mac out on a winning note January 9th.
