Nick Saban did something that he rarely does and that is endorse a player. Saban went on ESPN and told Chris Folwer he believes Trent Richardson is the best player in the country.

“To me Trent Richardson is the best player in the country,” said Saban.

“To me, Trent is the best football player in the country,” Saban said. “You love saying that about someone who is such a good person, who does so much to serve other people, who is a great teammate, a great leader. He cares about everyone around him. His performance and production pretty much speaks for itself. I will tell you this. He’ll be the first one to tell you that the offensive line does a pretty job of getting it blocked up front and that’s why he has a lot of success.”

Let the numbers speak for themselves; Richardson has over 1,500 yards this season second only to Mark Ingram in his Heisman year and he has more touchdowns with 20 which is the most by any player in the SEC this season.

Andrew Luck has thrown a pick in each of his last four games not to mention the fact that his team was blown out by Oregon.

Baylor’s quarterback Robert Griffin III only got into the race when he beat Oklahoma on a touchdown pass with seconds to go in the game last weekend, but he hasn’t led his team to a BCS game and he has had his share of issues as well.

But the most important thing is Richardson has been the most consistent player this season and his team is the No. 2 team in the country; Luck or Griffin can say that.
