Tide’s Green Looking for Big Things from Him and the Tide

By

The Republic, a newspaper out of Indiana did an interesting profile on All-SEC forward JaMychal Green.

The article talks about in detail about how the senior and his teammates struggled in the beginning of last season, but how they managed to come together mainly because of Green’s maturity on and off the court.

“I felt like once I got back from the suspension, that's when the season turned around for the team and we started to make a name for ourselves,” said. Green.

“We were just going through a lot of adversity and I just couldn't control my temper. But I became a better person out of it.”

And the Tide became a better team as well. The Tide would end up with a 12-4 conference record, winning the SEC West and would end up winning 25 games last season making the finals of the NIT.

After his suspension, Green would average 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and became a member of the All-SEC team last season also.

Tide head coach Anthony Grant knows Green’s maturity and leadership is needed if the Tide is to make a run in the SEC.

“I think JaMychal is one of the elite guys, not only in the SEC but in the country," Grant said. “I'm very excited to have him back as a senior, not only because of the type of talent he brings to the team but his leadership.”

“The biggest thing about JaMychal that we've talked about all along is that maturity. When you become a senior, there's a different sense of urgency, a different understanding that you have.”

His teammates also noticed a difference in Green too.

“You could tell he wants to make that next step,” sophomore point guard Trevor Releford. “He's staying after practice, doing extra work, trying to get there. You can definitely tell it's a different JaMychal Green."

The senior said he is glad to back in a Tide uniform this season and thinks coming back will pay off in the end.

“Coming back this year was a good decision for me just because of the talent we had coming back and coming in,” Green said.

We’ll see if all that maturity will pay off during the season, most basketball experts think it should.
