Saban To Name QB Starter today; PSU QB’s Struggle

By

Nick Saban announced yesterday that he will be making a decision on who will start the Penn State game today.

“Both guys are working hard,” Saban said. “Both guys have a good attitude about what they’re trying to do, and both guys are preparing well for the game.”

Most people think that after last Saturday, that the Tide’s starting quarterback will be AJ McCarron, with Phillip Sims backing him up. I would think that Coach Saban may know who his starting qb is, but may not announce it to the public until Saturday.

Why should he give Penn State a leg up on preparing for this game (even if it is a day)? It’s pretty obvious that McCarron will start, but don’t be surprise if Sims plays on certain downs or maybe be used in the Wildcat package.

Bama isn’t the only team trying to find a quarterback; apparently Joe Pa has been holding auditions this off season for that position as well and neither one of his quarterbacks were impressive last week against Indiana State.

Combined, the PSU’s quarterbacks were 12-20 for 114 yards, zero touchdowns, and were sacked three times.

Although McCarron and Sims struggled at times last week, the two combined for almost 300 yards passing and one touchdown. I dare say that most Tide fans feel much more comfortable with our two playing quarterback than what PSU has at that position.
