Sad news today, Alabama confirms that offensive lineman Aaron Douglas was in Fernandina Beach, Fla., early Thursday morning.

The promising young football player originally played with Tennessee where he was a freshman All-American in 2009.   In January, he transferred to Alabama after playing last season at Arizona Western College.  He was injured during spring but was thought to be a viable candidate to replace James Carpenter at left guard for the Crimson Tide.

"He was a great kid and a great football player," said Arizona Western College coach Tom Minnick.   "He was going to be the next NFL player from Arizona Western College. He played his butt off here. His athletic ability was unbelievable...  There was a lot of pressure on him because the Tennessee fans had called him a traitor. It was putting pressure on him. Words had hurt him."

Alabama Coach Nick Saban said today in a statement, "It is a tragedy anytime you lose someone close to you and even more so when it is a member of your family.   Aaron was a part of our family and always will be a part of our family at Alabama. He was an outstanding young man and we were excited about what he had accomplished as a player and a person in the short time he was with us."
